What I have learnt from making our swede

What I have learnt from making our swede

I have learnt how to use professional camera and how to use final cut pro. As a group we've also learnt how to produce, and market our short film. In the production we have storyboarded and planned out how we want each scene to be, then we decided to write up a script for the swede. we thought of the props we needed and all the items we needed were provided by the college. some of the were props were such as; a mask, a knife, microwave, phone, tape. we all had different roles to play when making our swede. I had to peform a double act, where I had to be the killer as well as being the boyfriend in the story. We've all helped out on editing the swede, some of us even came during our own time and edited it so we would be finished in time for exhibition. The idea of our film was from the original horror movie 'Scream' and we chose to rewrite it in a much funnier way so it would match our target audience's age of 12 years old over. For the editing we used the program installed on the Apple Macs which was Final Cut Pro. It was a bit of a struggle when we first tried using it but soon we got the hang of it and we've actually got some really good shots and editing. All of us made our own individual posters for the film but we used my poster for advertising our swede.

What we have leant since creating our 'Scream Swede'

While making our swede we had to look at all the stages of production to create our short film. When coming up for the idea of our swede we had to watch the key scenes within the original 'Scream' movie, we then chose the opening scene to recreate. After this we had to come up with a basic script and story board to help us follow the order of scenes in the filming and editing of our swede. We chose our characters, the props that we were to use and where we were to film it. Our characters were: Me (Paige) as Casey/the girlfriend and Shahed as the murderer and murdered boyfriend. We film within the our college and the props we used that were key factors that are used within the original film like the mask, this was to make a clear link between our swede and the original. After editing and uploading our swede to YouTube, we began to promote it via word of mouth, E-mail and social networking sites. We told family and friends and then they supported us by sharing our link on their personal Facebook pages, the links were also sent via E-mail. We received feedback on our swede's Facebook page, by the comments left on YouTube and through E-mail.

Through this process we became 'prosumers' as in order to create and 'produce' the swede we had to interact and watch the original 'Scream' film - by doing this we became 'consumers' and 'producers' within our own right - 'Prosumers'. Without using this two way process of being 'consumers' before becoming 'producers' we would not have been able to create our swede.

what have i learnt from making a swede

while making a swede i have learnt about many different camera shots which we then applied to our swede. For example we used a match cut shot from the phone ringing to the girl picking up the phone. Then i learnt how to use final cut pro which allowed me to have a go at editing the footage we had filmed creating different types of camera shots. Also we created a story board and script befre filming as it gave us a clear guide on what we were doing. By making our swede we became a prosumer which means to produce content to be consumed on the internet. we done this by making our swedes and then uploading it on youtube for people with internet access to see. we used cross media convergence through our scream swede poster because without the swede the poster would not exist. we used convergent technologies by promoting our swede by sharing our swedes youtube link on Facebook and creating a facebook fan page, this is where we gained a fan base as we got likes and comments. Our swede received a global audience as it was seen by people in other countries through youtube.

What have you learnt from filming your swede?

I have learnt a lot by filming our swede. I learned how to use a professional filming camera and professional filming equipment including a tripod, steady cam and still cameras. We used still cameras to take photos of each scene and then develop them into a storyboard. We used a tripod when we were filming to make sure that our clip is not blurly or shaky. When we had to film the running scene I used a steady cam to make sure that I was able to film her running down the stairs and to make sure that the image is stable.  As a group we all worked together to film each scene so teamwork was not a problem. When filming we decided to include different types of shots for example a match cut when the girl was in the kitchen and the phone was on the top of the washing machine and then it cut to her picking up the phone and talking to the killer. The feedback that we got for our Swede was good and we found out that our video had been watched all over the world in countries like Australia, America and United Arab Emirates. This meant that we had a global audience because it was not just viewers from the United Kingdom. I think that we have all learnt a lot from this process.
